ASOS Saves The Day: Ball Dress Shopping

Despite how it looks out the window today, summer is nearly upon us and one of the best parts (in a massive list of great things about summer) is the great opportunity for a wardrobe overhaul.

This year, with most of us leaving Nottingham we've gone a bit OTT on the balls front! I have managed to line up 3 for this term and with one down and two to go I have been scouring the internet to find the perfect dresses.

The Cheerleaders making a rainbow in our outfits at the Athletics Union Ball

Ball number one kicked off with a very last minute purchase when I realised the dress I planned to wear no longer fitted - good news it was too big, bad news new dress needed (is that bad news?). With less than 24 hours before the ball I was lucky enough to find this Aqua number on ASOS and thanks to their very reliable next day delivery, it arrived just in time! Moral of the story: sort outfit in advance.

You can find it here (currently on sale). P.S. "Light Red" is in fact a very bright pink/orange! The colour is much more like this....oh and be prepared for some serious tit-taping!

Bending down to normal height!

So I've taken my own advice and learnt from my previous panic and started looking early. I've found this beautiful dress for the number 2 from Virgos Lounge - again through ASOS. I was lucky enough to bag it with 20% student discount making it slightly lighter on the bank account but I will definitely get a few wears out of it! Its more of a dark pink than the red that it seems in the photos but it is absolutely beautiful and fits perfectly. Its got a sexy thigh split but the high cut neck line keeps it elegent.

Another wonderful find is this vintage inspired number now hanging in my housemates wardrobe ready for the same ball! It is very glamourous and there is a lot of room for accessorising. Charlie's is cream but it is also available in mint green and in orange which would look amazing with a tan.

I still have one more to find but have a back up so am not having an "oh my god I have nothing to wear" moment just yet. I wanted to share some other ASOS favourites that I found along the way so whether its a prom, graduation ball or just a posh party here are some ideas to set you off on your dress hunt!

And as they mentioned on BBC Threes "Sweat the Small Stuff" this week, every women's worst nightmare is someone turning up in the same dress...and wearing it better. The ONLY way to avoid this is to make sure you find a dress you love, that fits you properly and makes you feel wonderful so that no matter who turns up wearing what, you still look and feel 'a million dollars' (hopefully having spent a teeny tiny fraction of that).

Happy shopping!
