The Uggly Truth

Excitedly clasping my first Starbucks red cup of the year and watching my breath steam in the crisp air, it is clear that winter is fast approaching. As the rain starts, pumps are totally redundant and I head of in search of appropriate boots.

This time of the year reminds me of the torture that was school-shoe shopping. This battle between style and convenience was probably the biggest tantrum trigger of my childhood. Ten years on and I still find myself trawling through the high street and online stores in search of something to keep my toes warm and dry but compliment my newest purchases. Apparently this is an impossible task.

Apparently, ‘suitable’ winter boots available on a student budget can not be stylish. But then life is never fair, right? I appreciate that I’m probably particularly pernickety but surely someone could have taken pity on the average boot wearing population by now.

But in the mean time I’ve decided to take the hit and step back into some Ugg boots. They may stray slightly from Autumn/Winter 2011’s hottest footwear trend (although I should mention that they’re not too far from the fur topped delights worn in the Anna Sui to D&G shows), but until I can get my hand on another student loan to cover a catwalk worthy pair, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
